Yeah, I think the best approach would be starting at the Pine Ridge trailhead instead of the main entrance. The elevation gain is more gradual that way and you get better views of the canyon about halfway through. We should leave by 6am to avoid the afternoon heat. I have done this trail a few times now and the section near the old fire lookout tower is usually less crowded. Make sure to bring plenty of water and some snacks for the top. The weather forecast looks good for Saturday with clear skies and temps in the low 70s. I can drive if you want since my car has more room for gear. Let me know if you want to meet at the coffee shop downtown first or just head straight to the trailhead. I will bring the trail map and my portable speaker if you want some music along the way. It should take us about four hours round trip with stops for photos.

I have been experimenting with this tomato sauce recipe and I think I finally got it right. The key is roasting the tomatoes first with garlic and a bit of basil before simmering. I used Roma tomatoes from the farmers market and they turned out really sweet. You want to let it cook on low for at least two hours to get the right consistency. I added a pinch of red pepper flakes for some heat but you can leave that out if you prefer a milder sauce. The fresh oregano makes a big difference compared to dried. I served it over spaghetti with some grated parmesan on top and it was really good. You should try it with the fresh pasta from that Italian market on Main Street. Let me know when you want to come by and I can show you the full process.
