Regarding the community garden layout – I think it’s smart to place the perennials along the south wall so they get consistent sun, then use the center beds for seasonal vegetables. We should also factor in a drip irrigation system from the rain barrel; that will keep maintenance low. Let me know if you want me to sketch a rough diagram this weekend. Also, I heard the weather might be warmer than usual next month, so maybe we shift the planting schedule forward by a week or two. Let’s discuss on Thursday call.

I think we should go with the raised beds for the vegetable garden – they drain better and keep the soil warmer in early spring. I measured the area near the fence and it’s about 12 by 8 feet. We could fit three 4x4 beds with a walkway in between. I can get cedar boards from the lumberyard this weekend if you’re okay with that. Also, the tomato seedlings I started indoors are about 4 inches tall now, so we should harden them off next week before transplanting.
