I looked into that hiking trail we talked about last week. The map shows it starts near the old ranger station on the north side of the lake. It is about a six mile loop with moderate elevation gain. I figured we could park at the overflow lot since the main one fills up early on Saturdays. Remember to bring the binoculars because there is a bald eagle nest about halfway through the loop. We should probably leave by seven AM to beat the crowds and the afternoon heat. Let me know if you want to grab coffee beforehand at that new place downtown that just opened.

The book I mentioned arrived yesterday and I have not been able to put it down. It covers the history of landscape architecture in the Pacific Northwest. The author spent years researching the original plant species used by early settlers in that region. There is a fascinating chapter on how volcanic activity shaped the soil composition which in turn influenced the design of many public parks. I think you would really enjoy the section about the arboretum projects from the 1970s. I will drop it off at your place later this week if you want to borrow it before I finish it.
