Regarding the garden plans for the spring, I've settled on planting tomatoes, zucchini, and some herbs along the back fence. The soil in that area gets the best sunlight after noon. I need to pick up some stakes for the tomatoes this weekend, the bamboo ones worked well last year. Have you had any luck with those pest-repelling marigolds? I'm thinking of putting a border of them around the vegetable patch. The compost bin is almost ready to turn, it's been about six weeks. I can bring over some of the finished compost for your flower beds if you like. Let me know what day works for a trip to the nursery, I'm free most mornings. We should also check if they have the new variety of drought-resistant lavender. The forecast suggests a drier summer, so that might be a good choice for the side yard. I finished reading that book on perennial borders, some interesting ideas about color sequencing.
