Hey, have you seen that new documentary about the Great Lakes? I finally watched it last night and was blown away by the footage of the shipwrecks. The narrator had such a calming voice, it made the whole thing feel like a bedtime story but with more facts. My partner kept interrupting to ask questions about the invasive mussels, which I couldn’t answer. I think I need to read the companion book they mentioned at the end. Also, the soundtrack was incredible – really atmospheric. I’d recommend it to anyone who likes nature films that don’t get too preachy. We paused it halfway to make popcorn and ended up talking for an hour about our own lake trips. Makes me want to plan a camping vacation this summer.
Anyway, let me know if you want the streaming link. I can send it over. It’s not too long, just under two hours, so it’s perfect for a weeknight.

I finally got around to reading that book you recommended – the one about the history of clocks. It’s surprisingly gripping. I’m only about a third of the way through, but the chapter on medieval water clocks was fascinating. The author has a way of making technical details feel like a thriller. I also learned that the word “clock” comes from a Latin word for bell. Who knew? I think you’d really enjoy the section about how train schedules forced standard time zones. It made me appreciate my phone’s alarm a lot more. Also, the illustrations are beautiful – lots of old woodcuts of escapements and pendulums. I’ll probably finish it this weekend and then I can lend you my copy. Let me know if you want to discuss it over coffee sometime.
Besides that, the weather has been amazing – I took my dog for a long walk along the river and we saw a heron. Hope you’re doing well.
