Hi there – I wanted to follow up on your question about the garden layout. I think the raised beds should be about 4 feet wide so you can reach the center from either side. For depth, 12 inches is usually enough for most vegetables, but if you plan to grow carrots or potatoes you might want 18 inches. We’ll need some untreated cedar boards and a good weed barrier fabric. Also, regarding soil mix, I’d recommend 60% topsoil, 30% compost, and 10% perlite for drainage. I can order the lumber this weekend – let me know if you want me to send you the exact list. Also, the local nursery has a sale on tomato starts this Saturday morning, so we could pick some up then. We should also talk about irrigation – a simple drip tape system would work well and is easy to set up. Just a few things to consider before we start building. Let me know if you have any other questions. Talk soon!

✦ Omaha Steaks

About the hiking trip on Saturday – I checked the weather and it looks like a mix of sun and clouds with no rain, which is great. The trailhead is about 45 minutes from downtown, and parking should be fine if we arrive by 8:30. I think we should take the loop that goes past the small waterfall – it’s about 5 miles round trip with moderate elevation gain. Not too strenuous but offers some nice views. We’ll need to bring snacks and plenty of water – each person should carry at least a liter. Also, I have a portable stove if we want to make some tea or coffee at the summit. Let me know if you prefer starting earlier or later. I can bring a map and a first aid kit just in case. There’s also a creek near the halfway point where we can refill if needed. I’ll pack some trail mix and maybe sandwiches. Let me know what works best for you. Looking forward to it!
