I looked into the hike you mentioned on the northern trail. The elevation gain is steady over about two miles and there is a stream crossing near the midpoint. I recommend bringing extra water and a light layer because the wind picks up near the ridge. The views from the top are worth the effort especially in the late afternoon light.
