well the trail was definitely more challenging than i expected but also more rewarding. you asked about the difficulty level so here goes. there are a few steep sections around the midpoint that caught me off guard. the incline is steady for about half a mile but the views from the top are worth every step. i would suggest bringing extra water because there arent many places to refill. the trail markers are easy to follow once you get past the first fork. we took the left path which added about twenty minutes but it was the better route. the terrain is mostly packed dirt with some rocky patches near the summit. nothing technical but youll want proper shoes. overall i would say its a moderate difficulty trail that most people can handle with a reasonable fitness level. if you plan to go on a weekend try to start early because the parking lot fills up fast. the ranger station has a map that shows all the alternate routes.
i also checked on the campsite availability and there are still a few spots for next month. the group site near the creek is already booked but the individual sites look open. the fire restrictions have been lifted so you can have a campfire which is nice. the night sky out there is incredible with very little light pollution. we saw quite a few stars last time.

so i finally tried that pasta recipe you sent me last month and it turned out better than i expected. the key was letting the sauce simmer for longer than the recipe said. i added a bit more garlic than called for and used fresh basil from the garden. the pasta itself was a simple homemade pappardelle which took some practice to get the thickness right. next time i think i will roll it out a bit thinner but the texture was really good. the sauce had a nice balance with the tomatoes being the star. i served it with a side salad and some crusty bread. the whole thing came together in about an hour and a half which felt reasonable for a weekend dinner. let me know if you want me to send you the adjustments i made. i think the recipe could also work with a gluten free pasta if you swap out the flour blend. really appreciate you sharing that one.
also i wanted to mention that the farmers market had some amazing heirloom tomatoes this week which made a big difference in the flavor. if you can find good ones it really elevates the dish. i also tried roasting a few of them first before adding to the sauce and that added a nice depth. the fresh herbs are really the key though so dont skip those.
