I just got back from that hike we talked about and the trail was absolutely stunning this time of year. The weather held up perfectly and we only got caught in a light drizzle near the summit. I packed way too much food as usual but honestly having extra snacks made the break at the overlook feel like a little picnic. The wildflowers are really starting to come out and I saw a couple of deer about halfway up which was pretty magical. Let me know if you want the exact route because there were a few forks and one way was definitely easier on the knees than the other. I think next time I'll bring a lighter bag because my shoulders were feeling it the next day. But overall it was exactly what I needed to clear my head for the week ahead. The drive out there was smooth too hardly any traffic which never happens on a Saturday morning. I stopped at that little bakery on the way home and grabbed a loaf of sourdough that was still warm. You would have loved it. egbaDZjrJWL2 Anyway we should plan something together soon before the weather shifts.

I've been meaning to tell you that the tomato plants are finally starting to produce after that slow start we had in early spring. I was worried they wouldn't bounce back but a little extra compost and consistent watering made all the difference. The basil next to them is also doing really well and I've been making pesto almost every week now. I tried that trick you mentioned about pinching off the lower leaves and I think it helped with air circulation. The raised bed project took longer than expected but now that everything is in place it feels worth the effort. I still need to get a few more stakes for the pole beans because they're getting tall and starting to lean pretty heavily to one side. Let me know if you have any extra twine or if you want to come grab some cherry tomatoes because there are way more than I can eat alone. I'm going to try fermenting some of the extras to see how that turns out.
