Actually I ended up taking a different route on the hike last weekend and found this really peaceful clearing I had never noticed before. The trail wound through a grove of older trees and opened up to a small meadow with wild grasses and patches of clover. There was a creek running along the edge that I could barely hear until I stopped walking. I sat there for maybe an hour just watching the light shift through the clouds and listening to the water. A couple of deer came out near the far side and didn't seem to mind me at all. It was one of those afternoons where you forget what time it is and that kind of thing just does something for the headspace you know. I had only planned to walk about three miles but ended up doing closer to six because I kept following side paths that looked interesting. Next time I want to bring a small sketch pad or even just a notebook because the way the light hit those tree trunks was worth trying to remember better than a phone picture can capture.

The funny part was I had told my brother I would be back by four to help him move that bookshelf and I completely lost track of the hour. He texted me around five with a photo of the shelf sitting in his hallway and a string of laughing emojis. He knows I disappear like that sometimes. I owe him a dinner now but honestly the trade was worth it. The air had that late summer warmth that still carries a little coolness in the shade and I think I needed a day where nothing was scheduled or urgent. I am already looking forward to going back next month when the leaves start turning.
ljJWA1yR1S5 I might even try going earlier in the morning to catch the fog that sometimes settles over the meadow before the sun burns it off.

I finally started that online course I had been putting off for months and honestly the first module was way more engaging than I expected. The instructor has this relaxed way of explaining concepts that makes complex topics feel manageable and he peppers in real examples from his own work which helps a lot. I am only about a third of the way through but I have already picked up a few approaches I know I will use. The assignments are project-based rather than just quizzes so you actually build something as you go which keeps me motivated to keep pushing forward. I carved out Tuesday and Thursday evenings as my dedicated study time and I am surprised how much I look forward to it now.

A friend warned me that online courses can feel isolating but this one has a discussion board where people post their work and give feedback and the community is pretty active. Someone shared a variation of the first project that used a completely different color palette and it sparked a whole thread about design choices. I jumped in and shared a few thoughts and got some really thoughtful replies. It reminded me how much I enjoy talking through creative decisions with people who are curious about the same things. I still have four more modules to go but I am already thinking about what I want to tackle next maybe a related course that dives deeper into the specific area I am gravitating toward.
