I was just thinking about what you mentioned the other day regarding the garden project. I finally got around to looking at those perennial options you suggested and I think you're right that the lavender would work well along the south-facing wall. The soil there drains really quickly and gets full sun most of the afternoon. I also checked on the soil pH like you recommended and it's around 6.8 which seems pretty neutral. I finally tried making that pasta dish you sent me the recipe for and it turned out really well. I was a bit skeptical about the sauce consistency at first because it seemed too thin but after letting it simmer for about fifteen minutes it reduced nicely. I used the fresh basil from the farmer's market instead of dried and I think that made a big difference. Next time I might add a bit more garlic though because we really love garlic in this house. My youngest asked for seconds which is always a good sign. I served it with a simple side salad and some crusty bread. Let me know if you have any other good recipes I should try.
