I have been working on restoring that old bookshelf I found at the market last month. The wood is in decent shape once I stripped the old paint off. I am planning to use a natural oil finish to bring out the grain pattern. It should take another week or so to complete since I am taking my time with the details. The shelves are adjustable which makes it versatile for different storage needs. I found some nice baskets that will fit perfectly in the lower compartments. This has been a relaxing project to work on in the evenings. Let me know if you want to see the progress sometime.
I also picked up some new sandpaper in different grits which has made the smoothing process much easier. The hardware store had a good selection of finishing oils so I went with a tung oil blend that should give a warm satin look. I am planning to start the final sanding this weekend and then apply the first coat of oil.
