Hi there, thanks for asking about the trail conditions near Rattlesnake Ridge. I checked with the ranger station yesterday and they said the upper loop is still pretty muddy from the rain last week, but the lower meadow trail is in good shape. We could start from the east trailhead around 7:30 to avoid the midday heat. I will bring the map and some extra water filters in case we need to refill at the creek crossing. The group size should be fine as long as everyone carries their own pack and we stick to the marked route. Let me know if you want to adjust the meeting point to the gravel lot instead of the main parking area since it gets crowded by 8. I can also pick up the trail mix and dried fruit if you cover the sandwich supplies. The weather looks stable for Saturday with partly cloudy skies and a light breeze from the west. I will send the final gear list tomorrow morning.

I got your message about the potluck dessert situation and I think the lemon tart recipe from your aunt would work really well if you adjust the sugar slightly. I made it last month for a gathering and used about a third less sugar than the original and added a tablespoon of cornstarch to the filling to keep it from weeping. You can prep the crust the night before and just blind bake it for twelve minutes at 375 before adding the filling. The key is to let it cool completely at room temperature before refrigerating or the top will crack. I also swapped the regular lemons for Meyer lemons last time and it gave it a softer tang that people really liked. If you need a backup option I can bring my go-to berry crisp which is pretty straightforward and travels well. Let me know if you want me to pick up anything from the store on the way.
